“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”
Our aim in Music is to stimulate a life-long appreciation for music and develop our children to become well-rounded musicians.
Mrs Dean, our music teacher, visits each class for one hour per week. Focusing on three areas of performing, composing and appraising, we cultivate a love of the subject. The children are exposed to a broad spectrum of musical genres such as popular, classical and world music as part of a balanced musical education.
Our children are naturally enthusiastic learners, something that extends into music. Regularly taking it upon themselves to carry on their learning and practise outside of the school day, the children prioritise developing their skills in their own time- that’s dedication!
Children in the younger years partake in two half hour sessions per week, where they find their singing voices and discover percussion instruments.
Key Stage One
Children in years 1 and 2 access the music curriculum through the ocarina, a traditional Chinese woodwind instrument!
Year 3 and Year 4
In years 3 and 4, the children build upon their generic music skills and begin to enhance their musicality by learning the violin!
Our oldest children in years 5 and 6 continue their music education on the Ukulele.
We have three peripatetic instrumental teachers that visit the school who teach piano, guitar and violin.
The school choir is an auditioned choir available to Key Stage Two. The children who are involved with the choir take part in both internal and external performances.
With an array of musical talent at Servite, we make sure that we organise plenty of performance opportunities to showcase what we have to offer. These include the Christmas Carol Service, Class Assemblies and an Instrumental Concert, amongst others.
End of Year Production
The End of Year Production is a huge chance for us to showcase our creative talent at Servite. We like to challenge our children’s musicality by exposing them to a wide variety of musicals such as The Pirates of Penzance! We even had a live band to accompany our presentation of Oliver!
